It is now easier and faster to get a joint uncontested divorce in BC.
A new program set up by the government allows couples to apply for a divorce online, speeding up the process and reducing filing errors and helping to save on legal fees. A joint uncontested divorce is one where both parties agree to all aspects of the divorce and there are no disagreements.
The Online Divorce Assistant takes about 15 to 30 minutes of your time to complete. After completing the application, users can print out the finished documents, and take them to a court registry for filing. The application is expected to lay the framework for future developments, such as an online protection order service.
One caveat: there must be no children from the marriage in order to use the new online tool.
